The present book is a compendium of scholarly contributions at the seminar held at South Delhi Campus in March 1988 on the Arthashastra of Kauatilya. It covers a wide range of topics on the Kautilya’s Arthashastra ranging from Economics, Financial administration, taxation, Architecture, trade routes, system of spies and Agriculture etc. It also reveals the underlying thought-current of Kautilya on various social Institutions prevalent in his times. All these authors have tried to look afresh on various social problems – which were we thought of by Kautilya and the tried to find out the solutions in his own way. He was, it seems, far ahead of his times. The present study will encourage and stimulate the scholars to explore this treasure-house of knowledge and to mould our modern day socio-political thinking in wider and far-reaching interest of our nation.
