The Yoga-Vasistha is a work which deserves to be better known. It will be like a breath of pure air, a ray of sunlight. It will take us into regions where fraud and deceit and greed do not exist and will bring us into contact with what is good and great. Shri Tarkeshwar Prashad, an I. A. S., in the midst of a busy official life has taken the trouble of expounding the doctrines of Renunciations and Salvation based on this great book. The Bhagvad-Gita is deservedly well-known all over the world and has beed translated and interpreted in many languages. It represents the highest level in metaphysical thought o which Indians were capable. In spite of its abstract metaphysics, it has exerted much influence on the daily thought and conduct of numberless persons. The Yoga-Vasistha has, however, not attained the wide popularity of the Gita and is almost completely unknown to western reader. They will find, through this translation, much to inspire and to elevate peace of the spirit and calm of the mind.
